Because if you filled your bars with sand, it would add quite a bit of weight not only to the quad, but also when you are turning. Somebody mentioned spray foam and I might give that a try. Another option is the lightweight packing pellets that you get in the mail. Break them up into little pieces and toss them in. Lightweight.
