blown head gasket

Does anyone know why the head of my engine is like black (shown in picture) where the spark plug goes it should be silver but half of it is black and it has some scratches, any reason whY ? Also how does the head gasket go on or which way does it face? Thanks

that black is the burn pattern, prolly carboned up from using junk oil at one time ?

the headgasket goes with the raised dimple ring facing up, and the pointed finger to the front

also make sure that head is not warped.
find a really flat surface check it
or you can try lapping it if your confident enough.
but if not warped then yah know
what does the gasket look like?
