8 Year update.
Added a oil cooler. The cooler is off a 1983 XJ650 Turbo. The lines and oil filter housing are from a 1985 FJ600. No hose clamps or custom lines, all OEM parts matched to make this a bolt-in.
Dyna coil mounts. The wires exit the bottom of the coils.
Sealed NGK plug caps...
I haven't had enough room to take it up to full speed. On paper its around 100mph with the 50 tooth rear. It has a 6 speed. I picked that motor due to its physical size/shape.. its not going to be anywhere near an R6 or CBR600, but it is just about right for that small frame.
Haven't posted on the old Blaster forum for a few months. My 550 blaster had it's third birthday this summer so I thought I would post some updates.
It now has an oil temp gauge next to the tach.
Also, the topic of "usability" comes up a lot with swaps like this. With that in...
A warn sprocket hub can cause it to wear out sooner. If it has any play it will move whenever power switches directions. I noticed mine started to do it in fall. My launch control box lets me keep the throttle pinned 100% then when I pull the clutch it cuts the igntion down by half.. so I use...
I'm not sure if this is a offical name for it, but I like to call the 700XX a Backbird. A call back to the CBR1100xx Blackbird of the 90s.
If I owned a 700xx I would put a decal like this right below the headlight:
The bike fell over in the barn over winter. All the gear lube must have leaked out of the vent. He went for a ride in spring and locked up the rear tire solid.
I bet you could still fit. It will be a lot stronger if its not so wide. If you want to make it easy you could just make it as wide as the rear frame tube like mine. Plus you won't have to go so far to connect in the motor mounts.
I know you have done this a few times, but i'll share how...
Hey, it's always good to see someone who isn't scared to do a little cutting! May I give you a few tips? First, are you sure the frame has to be so wide? I think the widest parts of the motor cases may end up being above your frame tubes anyways. Second, I would make your new frame long...
Do I hear talk of XS and XJ motors? Who would ever want to use something like that? :D
The 650 twin is 21 tall, 15 wide.
No matter how tall or short the motor is the output shaft on the motor will be your starting point. Just assume either the bottom or top of the frame will...

TORS is a system that keeps the quad from driving away if the trottle is stuck.. either when starting or when driving. There is a switch inside the thumb throttle and one inside the top of the carb. Lets say your carb...

I have a old 1980s/90s electronic convection oven that is about the size of a large microwave. Runs off a normal 110 outlet. I put case halfs and ATV diffs in there. Right at around 230-250 the bearings just drop out of the case on their own. Only 25 bucks at a yard sale. It wasn't allowed in...
