This blaster had very good compression before I split the cases. Can that be used to presume the piston to cyclinder clearance was ok? The piston and crank also appeared in good shape during dissasembly... Could the balancing gear be at fault?

I don't think it would work well in off cambers. Seems like gravity would force it to lean with the grade and not against it... Would make a nice application for the street. Anything to make ATV's road legalI:I:D

You got it. The top bushing consists of both plastic halves. The interior of the halves wears out causing the play.

Here's some feedback on that reed valve red neck repair. After riding the blasty for 20 minutes it stopped running. Suspecting the issue was the reeds, this is what I found... Note to self, the credit card trick works but not for long.
