I ordered some new rings for my stock piston to get me by until I can convince the wife a new top end is a great idea. Do I need to "break it in" when I put them in?

A neighbor of mine heard us outside trying to start the blaster yesterday and came over. He said it sounded like a piston. So we pulled the top end off and sure enough. The rings had spun around and one seized up in the groove. There is obvious wear on the rings but the cylinder seems fine...

I swapped out the carb and the one that came off worked on the other blaster (it really is nice to have one to swap parts with). I'm starting to think it is the air filter.
