I have a 2000 blaster and my rear cable brakes refuse to work. ive herd that they never actually work. why is this?

When i got my blaster it came with a DG pipe and scilencer. my two other friends who have blasters say it sounds good but its almost just the same as the stock pipe and scilencer. what do you think?
