Hey all, motor has plenty of compression but kick start is not catching. I can get it to catch but only after repeated kicks.. Took cover off and kick start and saw what looks to be a bit of wear? If need be I can upload a better picture later, but I'm wondering if what looks to be wear is supposed to be there or not, kinda looks like a sprocket when it starts to wear, & if this is the reason why it doesn't catch? Kick start returns perfectly fine, any advice would be appreciated, thanks

I am no expert but I have an idea what it may be. Do you hear gears grinding when you kick, or does it feel and sound like it is not engaging at all?

If you are hearing a grinding noise, I would suspect gear wear. If you are basically free spooling, I would look for a problem elsewhere.

I had the main clutch nut come loose on a quadracer a while ago, and the clutch was able to slide forward on the main shaft, and disengage from the gears on the back of the outer basket it was suppose to be meshed with. Caused a whole slew of symptoms, but easy to diagnose when the clutch basically fell off :D.

Another thing. It could be a missing snap ring/clip or a missing washer on the shaft that supports the gear that the kick start shaft gear meshes with. I have attached photos of that happening to the Blaster I just bought. There are two rings that sandwich the gear on that shaft. If you are missing either it could cause the gears to be misaligned and not engaged. I was missing the outer snap ring, and you can see the wear on the case in another photo. If you have large aluminum shavings in the bottom of your case and or on your gear like you can see in my photo's, I would say for sure there is something going on other than wear on the gear.

That picture you posted, is what I have been looking for. I opened my case up to find this (pictured). Does anyone know what I need to order and where it goes? Cus I know it doesn't go there.

I guess I'm buying the whole new Kickstarter assembly because I can't find just that spring for sale. Thanks for the insight Cherokee.
