Went to install the new chain on the new sprockets and couldn't get it right. Also running new chain rollers and chain guides.

the photos below are with the carrier housing pushed right in towards the engine.

Way to loose. And if I rotate the carrier to tighten it I get it good but its just about on the end of the adjusters. So future chain adjustments would be just about nothing.

Here is is again but I move the chain 1/2 a link and its better and adjusts better but thing is no help as I cant installed the link.

going to the next link is not an option as the chain ends up to tight but can get it on there.

Any ideas or tips? This is on a +3 swing arm and running 13 front and 40 rear.

Would going to a 12 or 14 on the front help?

Thanks

Cut that link out in the last pic. If it is tight that is fine. It is new chain and will stretch very shortly after some time on it. I have faith in you that you can make it reach. There is always 1/2 links also. Try dropping the adjusters vertical to the ground and tap that carrier in. It will go and no need to change gearing. What brand chain is that?

Had another look today and looks like I need a 1/2 link or sprocket change. The only way I could get the chain to go on with removing that link would mean removing the lower chain roller.

Had a look at the tensioner and I cannot rotate them as the skid plate is in the way.

I ordered a 12 tooth front sprocket and will see if that helps. They are cheap so if it not work I will have to look into doing the rear sprocket. Just want to get this bike done. ;)

roll the carrier back slightly, no need to have it pushed in to full adjustment
thats a good chain that hasn't stretched much on me the last 2 seasons

what gearing ?

Got the 12 tooth on the front and the chain fits a lot better now.

One thin I would like to know is adjusting it. the manual says to lift the rear wheels off the ground but I see other things on here say have it on the ground and another was on the ground with ride on it. Whats the right way to adjust it?

You can adjust it however you like. Im sure many have done it different ways with no issues. It however does makes sense to have it off the ground so there's no pressure on the rear. Personally I bought one of these years ago and this is how I set all my chains on a stock style carrier. Makes life easier, no meausring, no counting turns.
