Alright fellas, here is the run down.... Picked up an 04 blaster several months ago to tear into and rebuild/learn as i go. Thought it would be a simple little project to keep me busy, have some mechanical experience, have been riding my whole life but never have messed with a blaster. After hours of reading forums here over and over i think i have about come to the finish line (Thanks for the help). So far i have added and or fixed:
-top end rebuild (factory bore wiseco)
-oil seals
-carb rebuild
-tors delete
-oil block off kit
-P.C. exhaust
-Vforce 4 reeds
-banshee rear axle
-ASR +3 +2 a-arms
-yfz 450 shocks

Im sure im forgetting a couple of things but you get the idea.

Now that it is up and running the engine has a little over a hour on it after break in..... And now the questions.......

This stubborn thing seems to have no bottom end. Just bogs really bad until you get up over half throttle. jetting issues? I am still running all factory jetting. Ive researched forums here to try and get an understanding of how it works. This whole 2-stroke thing is all new to me, as far as maintenance goes anyways. I read somewhere that you should put 2 hours on it before you worry about it?? to make sure the rings are seated? Seems like alot to me but what do i know? Im learning. Also every now and then the clutch will slip? Not very often. Just seems to me a random thing. Adjustment rod maybe?

Thanks for all the help you guys didnt know you were giving me in the last few months and thanks for the input now.

I added some of my pictures. Several were too large to upload.

looking good. your front end is basically the same setup as mine. I'm running Raptor shocks and them arms. Any plans on upgrading rear shock, swing arm or axle?

I have a 400 ex rear shock. Havent attempted putting in on yet when i unboxed it wasnt sure if i would need different bushings on the bottom side. Didnt want to take the factory off until i made sure the 400 would work. As for right now i will probably run the banshee rear axle and factory swinger until i get engine tuned right. Ill have to check your ride out.

Got an email showing a reply from speedyslyder with some info on jetting issues and vents in the air box. Havent been able to see in on the thread and cant send pm yet. If your out there speedy, any pros/cons on vents vs. no lid? Have a jet kit but im pretty sure it jumped to like a 340 after the 230 and directions said move the needle clip if you use the 340.
thanks for the input

top shock mount you need bushes. Cheap from KOR.

Lower mount you do not need bushes but you been to drill the mounting hole larger on the shock.

Preciate it Mark, seems simple enough. I see i doubled up on the pictures. Not sure how to remove the doubles.

i started to write posted it then deleted it lol
cuz i was not so sure on the pro circuit jetting.
you should however use the genuine mikuni jets
and not the jet kit it will be easier to get info on and
tune it easier nobody suggests using the kits:)
with the pro-circuit im guessing it is at least a 280 or even more main jet, with needle in middle slot.
is the pro circuit a low to mid pipe or mid to high??
like i said i dont know about pro circuit:D
you would have to do plug chop to confirm the jetting.

you have to hit edit button
then i think erase the attached files plus delete the uploaded files
dont quote me on that im not sure how it looks on your end:D

lol there you go awk did it for you:)
i also did not realize you had v-force 4
i would say exhaust alone is a 280 main
then you add the reeds and if you open up airbox at all
plus elevation/temps it is increased complicated :)
im not a main jet expert and really dont give advice because there are too many variables.
only thing we do know is to do the plug chop procedure which there is a better threads then that 1 i post above
it is actually confusing and miss leading oopps again:eek:
the time to search or find info is not always easily achieved

Have a paypal cart full of Mikuni jets now from jets-r-us 280-340 and one lonely pilot at 32.5 ..... just in case the the one in there snuck past me as something other than stock. Elevation is around 650 where i am in alabama. Have 10 plugs in the shop right now, read enough about plug chops the last few months to know this was coming. Seems like the simple bolt ons are done for a while. Time to get down to the details. Just dont want to run it too lean and cause problems and dont want to keep buying fun stuff until engine is right. Seems like ive done everything 3 times with this thing guess thats part of the learning process. Lots of pro circuit in the forums like you said.

Thanks for getting back with me speedy

When you figure out a ballpark range for your main jet, start with the largest jet, and work down untill you get a good plug chop. It's the safest way.

Remember, your float level needs to be set correctly, or attempting to jet will be a massive headache!!

That is one thing I haven't checked at all. Know the specs off top of your head? Sure I can find it with some searching. I can change a jet and cut a plug and adjust air fuel/ idle screws. But float setting I have never done.

If anyone is still checking in on this little quad. Have been jetting and re jetting and jetting and re jetting (when I'm not working.... which had turned this into a slow process) can't get the power back that the thing had before exhaust install. Thinking of upgrading carb to see if I can simplify the process a little maybe the carb on here is too out of whack. Who knows what was done to it before I purchased. I did have to clean silicone out of the bowl.

With all that. People here seem to like the pwk28. Will I need anything else to make the carb work since I already have tors delete cable? Will jetting be close to the same as the stocker?? Have 290 in it now which is as close as I have got it. Still no bottom end.

Its odd that the stock carb is letting you down like that. They are damn reliable easy to tune carbs.

Maybe pull it back off, and go over it well. Check things like the needle #'s, float height, washer under the main jet. Take a couple pics and lets see if something stands out.

just keep in mind pro circuit exhaust ..
I believe at least is not the most favorable exhaust.
For perhaps a blaster
I personally only had 1 on a 01 Yz 125 that would /bog out randomly.
like i said before pro-circuit and factory yamaha had beef so they no longer care although
it should still perform somewhate

The nice thing about doing one mod at a time is that when something goes wrong and you start making less power, you know EXACTLY what it was that did it. Just go back that one step.

Modifying something to make up for a power loss from something else is generally not the right way to go.
