I am starting my blaster rebuild, a little back story is my uncle purchased a 88 Blaster brand new and ice raced it in NY until 92. Then it sat and he moved to NC, but he has passed away and I received the quad from my aunt a couple years ago. Well I picked it up from my home in NY this past summer and brought it to where I am stationed now. The bike started and ran well, but I hated the TORS, oil injection system, and cable brakes that don't work. So being the old girl was old I decided to rip it apart and rebuild.
First step was rip it down to the frame and get it painted along with everything else. I am awaiting the return of the frame now.

Rear hydraulic brake kit (still using the floating disk until I decide on what axle I want to use)

Front shocks (Looking at banshee or artic cat adjustables)

So I know to leak test and compression test the engine and I will get that accomplished when I can remount the engine in the frame, but from inspecting the inside of the engine the cylinder and piston are in excellent shape. All the gear lash patterns looked good while the engine was apart as well. I plan to ride a few tracks this summer and if anything happens to the motor a stroker kit will be installed.
I plan to post some pics once I get to the reassembly stage.

If anyone has some advice please throw it my way, this is my first Yamaha (I have to admit I am a Kawasaki guy). But I have been combing through this forum reading and making so many notes about what would be best for this quad and still reasonably affordable. I may just keep this to tool around on and pick up the new YFZ450R to race next season, I just want to get back used to riding after a few years away.

Replace your front A arms and get better shocks then the stock ones and banshee.
Extended swing arm would be another other also.
 
I am looking for some extended a-arms and wider axle. I am not sure it I really care to go longer on the swingarm and if I do it will be minor 1" or 2". Any a-arm recommendations? I will probably get some pics of the progress up this weekend. I also ran into some clutch engagement issues, but I just picked up a new Tusk rebuild kit and all new arms and the ball as well.
 
Looks nice dude. I would do away with stock a-arms and shocks and remove front wheel spaces and install a set of aftermarket a-arms and shocks.
 
I finally have some rims and tires mounted along with my steering stabilizer. Hopefully this week the wider rear axle will be here along with a couple clutch parts and my heel guards.
 
So I am in need of some help for the next purchase. I am looking at extended a-arms, but should I go for long travel or standard. I don't plan on going LT in the rearend, so I feel like going that route in the front would be pointless. Also the quad is going to be used primarily on MX tracks. Thanks for the help.
