Hi im wanting to ask a few questions about the kx250 tecate 4 1987 model. what likes the power on them, can you get plastics for them (1 side panel missing but ebay doesn't sell them.) are they one of the rariest 4 four wheelers about and also much are they worth to buy running. also will they always go up in price to buy if there in good nick and running?

The Reason Im Asking Is I Can Get One For £700 its just had a brand new prox piston(il be putting a wiseco in it don't worry!) it runs as sweet as a nut guys line. he said the fly wheel is broken but he has just ordered one for it but he said if its not arrived by time of sale he will give the buyer the money to purchase one which is £38 . is it worth buying? it is missing one side panel but looks in good condition with a wide axle ,nerf bars has a standard pipe on it i think but might not be but the exhaust is rusty but the frame is in good condition looks original!

I have no idea wtf you really said but....

Ill take a guess youre looking at a tecate 4.Yea theyre ok on power but parts are harder than hell to find and not going to be a quad you want to have if getting parts for a blaster is an issue for you.

Id figure out what is abundant in your area and choose from those. You need to be able to make repairs and mods as need be so keep that in mind.

For what they are theyre ok but of the banshee,250R and all the big bad asses of that era it was the slowest.

Being a T4 owner, I can speak easily here. Parts are available, from the odd parts now being reproduced to the harder to get things, you just have to look. As for power...trx eater, banshee eater (to about 70mph)..etc etc. only real downfall is the width of them, very skinny for a powerhouse quad.

thanks man but i amn't ab;e to get the money together to purchase it... guy still has it so im going to give him a call tomorrow to ask him if he would be willing to swap for my blaster.. as i can get a blaster at the end of the year again a running one too! but i know the guy that has it as i have went to him to get electrical parts test for bikes i had in the past. but if i happen to swap or magically get the money il put pictures up :)

hey bro where you getting this info?

according to the mags at the time it was the slowest of them.

In fact i belive its a june issue from 1989 dirtwheels or something like that i just seen it in a box of them i have.Find an online back dated issue if you dont belive me.

Ive also heard from multiple people on different forums, that straight up power, this is faster than a 250r...NOT a banshee tho, but its pretty close. BUT the handling characteristics of it are horrible, not to mention the part availability etc etc. but for straight up power, i here its sweet

The other side, it may be faster stock vs stock than a 250r...BUT....aftermarket support is limited too. So modding it will be harder and expensier

they are the fastest of the smokers, HOWEVER, the are very skinny and need to be widened to acheive stability. A dialed in stock 250r with beat a stock banshee, and a T3/T4 are faster than the R's....so how is it a 250r will beat a banshee, and a tecate will beat the R's, but the Tecate can't beat a banshee? lol

The Tecates are fast, very very fast, both in power, and the ability to reach topend exceptionally quick, like all machines, they have their perks, and their downfalls.

These quad is super rare it's the fastest 250 it does like 74 easy a banshee does 75 stock and this is a single cylinder it just get over heated fast but other then that it's worth it

I think it was the only quad to have a power valved engine. Where Honda built an engine for the trikes and quads, Kawasaki just put in the current KX250 engine. The electrical system was crap, if you can afford a PVL system for it you will have a monster of a quad.

Tecate-4 was the only one stock from factory with power valves. I own an '88 and it will keep up with a Predator 500 with the carb all messed up. They will eat all the other 250's stock.
