YZF600 engine stuffed into a 90 blaster

Blending colors takes a lot of practice. And being only the width of the frame doesnt help much

Looks really cool from the distance tho! Will plastic colors be matching it?

Yea I'm thinking of doing the tank to match. The front hood will white and the rear fenders black.

So I re-based the frame since itd been too long by the time I got the clear. I like the blending more this time around.

I really went all in with the Pearl in the clear, so much so that it tinted the black of the frame to a blue. Happy accident as it is an exact match nearly to the majestic blue powder I used.

It's much more pronounced in person but I kind of got the blue pearl in picture.

Something must be tweaked in the front. The shock hits the upper a arm bon the left of the bike, but clears on the right. I'm going to mess with it some today and see what I can get.

whats up with the chix sh*t welds/ splatter on the frame brace???!!!?? in picture 3?
btw keep us informed with this build. looks cool.

I never cleaned up the spatter from the flux core in some places.

I've been really busy this week so haven't had time to get to do much on it.

I'll have some updates this weekend hopefully.

I am still working on it. Powdered the rims but they didn't come out very good. I need a new gun. Got some new Kenda Dirt Dogs for the back. 22x11's.

Made the last few spacers today. Just a few bolts to pick up now and finish my bumper. Measured for brake lines so I'll order those and pick up some Tech4's for the front.

Has anyone had any experience with the Duro Thrasher tires? I was only looking at 20's before but now that i've got 22's in the rear I'll need the 21's up front.

Well I picked up the Duro Thrashers, they look pretty meaty. Should work fine for what I need.

Nearly finished the fab work. I have to finish weld the front bumper and then all that is left for fab is to fiberglass the tank cover and gauge cluster.

I had to add these to the bumper to protect the corners of the rad since they stuck out and made the bottom likely to get stabbed with a stick. I'm going to add a steel mesh to go infront of the rad.

That bumper looks absolutely sick. Truly the best looking bumper I've seen modified/stock, or aftermarket.

Thanks. I like how it came out. Couldn't decide on coating it white or blue since I think the blue will hide the side pieces with the black rad behind it and I really like them but don't want the bike to be all white either. Went with blue as that was always the plan. It's baking now so I'll see.

did you ever figure out the problem with the front arms?

Kinda, sorta. I pulled the rear upper a-arm widening plate over to pull the front of that a-arm forward which gave more room. However, both front wheels are cambered to the left of the bike so I've got to loosen the bolts for the widening kit and move the arms over to straighten that out.

Got the new braided lines today. Took a bit of messing with the routing of the fronts to get them to fit well and not get pinched in anything. I'll make some tie-downs for them later.

I hope so. I hope these tires throw a big roost. Still waiting on my throttle to come in the mail as they only sent half of it the first time. Little wiring left to do and fluids but that's only a few hours of work. The tank cover and plastics will be last.

The bike is quite a bit heavier now and frame is longer so it won't wheelie as easily but we'll see. I'm still waiting on the throttle.

My battery I bought a while back I was going to use for this is no good so I'll order another. Engine isn't charging so I tested it out and seems to be the old and known to fail regulator is bad so I ordered an upgraded one of those as well. Figured I'd better not take the chance on an old one incase it blows the TCI which is expensive.

So in the meantime I finished up all the wiring and am working on the tank cover and gauges.

Cut the speedo and indicators off the cluster

And what I'm left with
20160525_125331173_zpsxygmvsw6.jpg

Heat gun to the old tank cover I cut in half and started bending it. Taking shape nicely, little fiberglass work needed to go around the filters. Still thinking on how to mount my gauge in there so we'll see where that goes.

What is everyone's thoughts on plasti-dipping the plastics? Black and white probably with some matte clear over it. BC/CC will likely crack and chip easy on these things I think.

Almost done with glassing the tank cover. Bit more work to make it fit nice than I thought since the gap was pretty big at the bottom.

wow, not sure how i missed this build... just went threw the whole thing, i felt like a was reading and adventure novel. In the begining i wasnt sure it was going to happen the way planned, than as i read on i saw road block and thought "oh no!" than would route on for you. Very skilled and crafty fabbing work, im very much impressed. and lots of putting it together and pulling it back apart, i wish i had the time man. Was also impressed to see it come completely back apart to be painted. sounds awsome, looks sweet, great colors, and to do it all with what you have access to and fabbing with what you have around is awsome. gonna add this to my watch tab 1:1

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

Not finished yet but I'll post it up anyway with where I'm at. I really don't like how the filter glassing came out. It's too rounded, doesn't look good. Might make it more squared off, not sure if I want to do the work again or not.

The gauge is just sitting in the hole for now, it'll sit up a little bit higher to clear the linkages.
