I just picked up a '79 IT400 motor today. The motor is in a '77 YZ400 chassis. I have ben looking for one of these motors for quite a while now. I am going to pull the motor out of the bike soon to go over it. I am planning on putting this motor in my spare blaster rolling chassis. Any tips or suggestions appreciated.

Great score on a great motor. Make sure you have well designed and installed motor mounts. Nice choice.

Pics.pics, pics!!! we like pics :).. We want to see pics of that bad boy... One concern you may want to focus on first is how the pipe will fit and or you will/can modify an existing pipe or if one will need to be made specificaly.. ,,, Good luck on the build. i am looking frwrd to a big displacement 2 stroke motor into a Blaster frame..

Nice strong air cooled motor, should be sweet, you might want to consider damped mounts where possible. I don't know from experience but have heard that motor vibes can be bad enough to make long rides tough
I have seen urethane bushings, (think sway bar endlink) used when putting sled motors into cart or buggy chasis.

I will get some pics soon. I have heard that the motor mounts have to be pretty substantial for this motor. I have to get the motor out of the bike and set into the blaster chassis. Then I can get a good plan for mounting it. I have wanted one of these big 2 strokes in a blaster ever since I saw Paulie B's. That is a sweet machine!

I made a little progress today. I got the IT400 motor pulled from the bike. I also pulled the head to see what bore it is on. It has .25 stamped on the top of the piston,so it is on it's 1st overbore. It needs a bore job to freshen it up. I believe that you can still get .50 or 2nd overbore pistons. So I should be ok.

I am jealous, I have been dreaming and drooling over the idea of putting a semi-late model 500 cc motor in one, but since I moved a few years back and left all my contacts and tools back in Wv, the cost and complication of getting the big pieces and fab work done are a but much right now.
But the air cooled IT400 is a much better idea than a water cooled 500, simpler to do and likey to have a better matched gearbox.

Good thing you are able to find parts for it.
