Labor Day Weekend - 2014 : This place has great potential. Trials markings are not quite up to Rock Run markings but getting there. Looks as if they are trying to use GREEN, ORANGE and RED in conjunction with numbered trail heads. (Plans are to mark them more clearly like Rock Run) We went down a few trails at a pretty good clip to find out the trail just ended. We also ran into some where the terrain just changed from sand, coal, mud then right into major rock and tree obstacle's . It does have some trails you can flat out run wide open. They are installing power lines so these trails are also part of the system. Plenty of Hills as to be expected located in the Coal Mines of Pennsylvania . Many of them have loose rock and ruts. These really need to be marked because we ran into a few groups with young kids who just could not make it up or down some of them and were stuck dragging the ATV out with a tow rope to a open trail. One good thing you do have cell reception here, towers all over the place. So help is a phone call away if needed.
Spoke with the staff at the welcome center and they just purchased another large area adjacent to the existing trails so AOAA is going to double in size next year or so. Also a private company will be opening up a camp ground close by which will be accessible by trails from AOAA.
Cost was $20 , no membership fee, but ATV's require DCNR registration, dirt bikes do not ???? , just under 2 hours from my house in Southern York Co. Pa. Easy access off I-81, Look forward to returning.
