Labor Day Weekend - 2014 : This place has great potential. Trials markings are not quite up to Rock Run markings but getting there. Looks as if they are trying to use GREEN, ORANGE and RED in conjunction with numbered trail heads. (Plans are to mark them more clearly like Rock Run) We went down a few trails at a pretty good clip to find out the trail just ended. We also ran into some where the terrain just changed from sand, coal, mud then right into major rock and tree obstacle's . It does have some trails you can flat out run wide open. They are installing power lines so these trails are also part of the system. Plenty of Hills as to be expected located in the Coal Mines of Pennsylvania . Many of them have loose rock and ruts. These really need to be marked because we ran into a few groups with young kids who just could not make it up or down some of them and were stuck dragging the ATV out with a tow rope to a open trail. One good thing you do have cell reception here, towers all over the place. So help is a phone call away if needed.
Spoke with the staff at the welcome center and they just purchased another large area adjacent to the existing trails so AOAA is going to double in size next year or so. Also a private company will be opening up a camp ground close by which will be accessible by trails from AOAA.

Cost was $20 , no membership fee, but ATV's require DCNR registration, dirt bikes do not ???? , just under 2 hours from my house in Southern York Co. Pa. Easy access off I-81, Look forward to returning.

They make you sign waivers releasing them of liablity. They are there to run an off road park, not enfoce the laws. If you decide to ride an unregistered uninsured atv its your problem if you get caught by cops or dcnr ranger.

DCNR = Dept Conservation Natural Resources. They are the govt entity here in PA that control ATV & snowmobile registration. They also manage our state parks & forests. State law requires all ATV's to be reg & insured. Enforcement is from police & DCNR Rangers, or if some dirty rat snitches you out. Most parks get you to sign a waiver & post something about the law on atv registration, but aren't really out to enforce the law. They want our money we are willing to pay them to ride. And as long as they aren't responsible they don't care.

Your dcnr is just like our DNR with one exception, we don't have to carry insurance on our machines unless they are purchased new threw the bank. They want you to carry insurance but don't enforce it. On a side note, with the rise in dirtbike and atv thefts everywhere, insurance is a good thing thing to invest in. We have to display the tags on our machines from the state in plain view. They also increased the fees 2 fold and now require 2 tags this year instead of one.

So Anyone have any plans on visiting AOAA this coming year? I hear prices going up a little but the "Western Reserve" should be open some time this year. I personally enjoy riding this area & plan on getting a year pass for AOAA & RAC.

I was at AOAA 9 times this year. I would go more if I could . I have my Blaster registered with DCNR. It took almost 3 months before I received my sticker. When you sign up, the dealer gave me a tag and a temp sticker that day, I rode the next day at AOAA . They do not ask you to present your registration or insurance ONLY your tag number . They do have staff looking to make sure ATV's have tags.

So I will be getting a season pass to AOAA as a "Christmas Gift", I was given the money just need to purchase. The handful of times I was there never had any issues w/ anyone checking my tag. I was there mostly during first few months of being open so maybe that was before they began checking. So what do they do to people w/ out tags send them away or turn them in? Currently in the process of reg mine. I have a used 89 blaster that was basicaly given to me due to needing so much work, but I called DCNR to have VIN ran before getting it. That way I knew I wasn't getting something that was stolen @ some point.

Got a season pass last Saturday. The weather was great & so were the trails. Alot of work has been done since my last visit. Hope to go this Sat 4-25, they are having a community benifit ride & parts of the "West Side" will be open.

Opening Day 1st Anniversary Sat May 16. Don't let the chance of a shower keep you away, @ 80 degrees Its just dust control !

"WEST SIDE" is open. Had a great time riding over there. Its been a while. Main loop that was open for benefit rides marked pretty good. While it was great riding @ the sands & other familiar areas, seems some obstacles & familiar areas are gone. Guess this is the price of making things "safe". We rode west side in the a m & east side after lunch. Found a few new trails on our eastern ride. Cant wait till next time. Maybe one day some of us can meet up & make it a BLASTER DAY @ AOAA !

Well got season passes again this year back in Jan. Group of us will be headed up to ride March 19. Most of the time we are there I see other Blasters, not sure if anyone I saw were members to this forum though. So If you ever see me on the trail, I am the guy on a red & white 89 Blaster, ( Rockstar jersey & camo pants most of the time ) say hello.

So any one riding here lately. It's been 2 years now since getting a pass and riding at Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area. Wondering how trail quality is for our small sport quads. Thinking about camping out and riding some weekend soon.

It's not bad, but get the Reading Anthracite pass. It will pay for itself after about 5 rides. You pay $175 for the entire year and have 20,000 acres at your disposal. Plus, if you ride dirtbikes, they've got some gnarly single-track.
