So I figure I better start a thread so I can look back on the progress and get your guys help as I go along . I got this blaster on a trade . The guy needed some camping gear . He said that it had been sitting for a while and that the kick start return spring was broke . Got it home and figured I better tear it apart to see what was broke . A few min later it looked like the spring was never put back on correctly and just not in the hole . Problem fixed . I did notice though that the spring would pop out if I did not keep my finger on it . Anyways I got it to fire up. It ran pretty bad

So I went to the cycle salvage and found a bunch of little stuff . Not sure how people lose these parts ? Then I went to the local atv shop to see if he mite have a clutch cover gasket . I found anothe kick return Sring at the salvage yard . Picked up a new gasket a carb rebuild kit some vent line mic oils and a new plug . Spent last last 2 nites playing with it . Got it running pretty good . I am into it about 65 bucks and a gallon good gas . I did have a spark plug wire problem and remembers seeing a plug cap at the salvage yard so I went back and the guy said he had a new one umm ok So that was 3 bucks . Once I get everything working and running good I will tear it down and make it look good again

So I decided to try and clean it up some. And degrees it. Now it has no spark ? I took the stator cover off and water came out. Not good. Spayer it down with wd-40 but still nothing not sure everything else looks good ?

If you have access to a multimeter, you can ohm out the stator and other electrical components to see if they check out. The values are listed in the service manual.

Another good thing to check would be make sure all the grounds are good. Shine them up with some abrasive paper and make sure they are clean.

Good luck.

Ok I got spark again. I even got it started. Then turned it off to bolt some stuff up and now it won't start again . I am beginning to hate this thing fast . I still have spark. I know these are about as basic as you can get spark fuel compressin and it should fire . When it started it was really loaded up but then cleaned out. Now it's dead again

That's the one bad thing about blasters being so easy to work on, no one takes them to a real mechanic, they either do the work themselves. Or even worse let a "friend" do it.
Unfortunately not all of us are mechanically inclined, and usually letting someone volunteer to do if for free is a really really bad idea.

That is a good looking blaster, hope it wasn't messed with too much.

? When you guys set the float on these carbs what point are you going off ? My floats is not flat . I went from the carb base with out the gasket to the high point of the float and it's just a hair over 13/16 of a inch

I just took a card and measured up 13/16 that's real close to 21 mm. And put a line them used that to get my float height

For the leaky gas deal.. I had a.. interesting condition carb when I first got mine. Various issues. Anyways I used a rebuild kit and only kept the old needle because the number on the rebuild needle was different. Anyhow it still leaked gas and I was pretty pissed. Turns out that some sort bug thing had made its way into the fuel valve and some dirty crap was on the outside of the new fuel valve seat. So I cleaned it and removed the bug.. stopped the fuel leak. Although it worked I was still pretty pissed off at nature in general for letting a bug get in the way of blaster riding. Drank beer to solve problem

I got the carb dialed in . Rode it around a while over the weekend . Had a leaky tire. Bead had dirt in it. Fixed that rode some more . And just when I was ready to load it up I figured I would screw around just a little more on it and I got on it hard . And then the dreaded ker plunk sound and she died . Got home and pulled the stator cover off and noticed that the flywheel nut had come lose and it sheared the woodruff key . I was happy again since that's a easy fix . I lapped the flywheel to the crank. Got a new key and figured it would fire rt up . Nope Pulled the plug and no spark . So I did some more reading and busted out the multi meter that has 10 thousand settings that I have no clue as to what they do ? Anyways I could not get any reading. I found a new used own stator and was going to pick that up But before I did that I wanted to know what or if I was useing the meter wrong so I asked for help and I was using it correct but he noticed that the little wire was broke. I didn't even see it . . Touched the wires and like magic we had numbers . So I figured I would solder in a new wire and go from there .

Well everything seams to be good I rode it hard this weekend and it stayed together LOL . now I can tear it apart and start building it . OK the the plan is to make it match my bike sorta . The frame will be powder coated Orange all new black plastic Fully built engine with all the good stuff . Moto Seat is even making a seat to match the one they made for my bike . I have to do a Hydro brake swap lol coming off a KTM to a blaster with wore out drums is just not going to cut it . and then some good suspension . Basicly spend a few thousand on something that will be worth 1200 . I got a set of paddle tires for it also so I am going to take it to the dunes . This is just a fun project for me . I am not really a quad rider but its fun to play on and will be fun in the snow and at the dunes . Knowing me I am sure I will end up racing it at some point just for the fun of it .

Got my Moto Seat. Cover today It matches my bike. Very nice . Just laid it on. Will install it tonite
