YZ250 Blaster Build Log

With all the extra power I think stock is out of the question but I will be running a stock for a while to do all the original testing.

I ran stock length with the 2003 KTM 250 motor for a while.
Oh yes, it will wheelie on command at any speed and makes hillclimbs difficult.
I only have a 2" extension in it now, like it, much better control on hillclimbs and still wheelies well at speed.
My son has a 4" extension under one of his big hp Blasters. Getting a bit long, especially on slippery surfaces.
Banshee Dave has good advice.

I think I'll go with a +4 then. There is a lot of hills around here and I'm nothing more than an amatuer rider at best so I think the stability that will come from it will be worth it, even if I lose a bit of traction. I also prefer all 4 tires on the ground. I do have a set of banshee rear hubs so I could run a bigger wheel and tire in the back if that would be a good contribute to anything.

Anyone know what the name or part number for this thing is?

I haven't been able to make any real progress with it the last couple weeks because my friend whose suppose to weld the stuff for me has been busy. I'm currently trying to button up all the little stuff that needs to be done that doesn't involve welding, the carb, electronics, swing arm, kicker, etc. I ordered a clutch cable so I'm waiting on that and I'm still trying to get my hands on that little gold thing that holds the throttle cable to the slide.

Pm me, I got that piece.

What throttle cable did you other yz250 blaster guys use? Did you keep it twist throttle? Personally I'd like to use the thumb throttle

Tried the twist throttle. The kid caught a grass clump with the right front at the dunes .. the jammed bars and instinct to hold on caused a WOT reaction .. pretty spectacular launch as the boy and bike parted company .. didn't give him a chance to get used to it .. changed it the next day .. had a cable from Pro-Motion .. at some point I modified the inside of the thumb throttle for more travel but I think that was for the 40mm alky carb.
Don't remember the part # but Pro-Motion had the cable

I've never cared for twist throttles, IMO they're dangerous, and you gave a perfect example of that. I'll deal with it for the time being but I will be working towards replacing it with a thumb throttle. I have one off a yfz450 that should give it plenty of travel.

Yea I'm running one from a yfz450 with no issues.

I fell in love with the Alba racing Pro Elite nerf bars when I had them on my trx450r, they're wide, sturdy and look great (I'm sure they're knockoffs of some other brand or something along those lines). Unfortunately they do not make them for the blaster (They will if we can get 5000-10000 people to support them, I didn't bother even trying) so I looked around for a set for a smaller quad and found they make them for the raptor 250/350. I plan on modifying them to fit the blaster and to accommodate the backward kick starter. As for the plastics, I don't think they will interfere but I didn't check. I'll throw a set of rears on tomorrow and see what happens.

Not hard at all to make work. Just a little cutting and welding. The hardest part I had to figure out was where to put the front tube mount. Since you will have a completely different pipe you may just be able to run it across the frame. I cut the pegs off and welded round tubing onto the frame tabs so the nerfs could slide right on. I also dropped the pegs down a little and moved them back also. There are pics somewhere in my build thread. If you cant find them or if you want some more pics I can take a few for ya.
