1988 LT80 low compression after rebuild

I went to this petcock. I would try referencing this to the lt50 part number. They could be the same. This did the trick for me.

Starter fluid down ! Haha...I knew it would get me a responce sooner or later. It is possible that it's flooded again...pulling the carb off shortly to clean again and I will try to investigate gas in the crankcase. I am going to order new petcock tomorrow off ebay. Banshee apparently bolts on and is much cheaper option.

Starter fluid, I could not be more serious, the use of it has been responsible for shortening the running hours of countless two strokes.

It comes second to pouring fuel in the spark plug hole as a life shortening practice.

If it won't start the conventional way something needs fixing!

Completely understand. Many times ppl, including myself, get impatient with lack of results and make poor decisions. Lesson learned and thank you

not to rain on the parade....but they must be really sticking it to us/cuz ever can of starting fluid i have ever seen/says upper cylinder lubricant....
??????
just what is starting fluid really for?....campfires?
i have a can of it....yet do i use it on a quad or bike no....ive only used it for chainsaw lawnmowers../things i dont care about/or get for free to see if they work/at all:)

it does no lubrication in the lower part of the engine. it can be used on any engine that has its own lubrication system (i.e. 4 strokes)

it does burn extremely hot.
so not good to use on a 2 stroke:)

anyways to origional poster??
i thought you replaced the pet c-ock??
if it is flooding i dont see how you cant disconnect hose to see if it runs/with float bowl full of fuel?
i have accidently left gas off before and it still runs for like 1-2minutes:)
you are deffinetly overlooking something

i had a ttr90 with the carb up front like that/super hard to adjust/get to...and guess what was the problem...the carb.

this question was never asked?
what is airscrew set at?does choke work/or fall back closed when your trying to start it?

Did not replace the petcock yet. I have cleaned the carb over and over, but doesn't seem to be enough. Airscrew set at 2 rotations out and choke stays on when attempting to start, then needs to be depressed to disengage.

Are you holding the throttle open when starting?

Good to know. Everything is back together with new carb rebuild kit installed. BUT now I think I need a starter relay. It's just making a buzzing noise. I Tried putting the relay from our '01 on there but I don't think they're compatible. I don't get any action (no buzzing) with the newer style relay system.

Battery is fine. Tried to test the starter and it doesn't sound like it's engaging. Going to swap it out and go from there.

So I've tried just about everything and no luck. I've checked compression, spark, and fuel. Replaced the wiring harness, starter, battery, spark plug, drained cylinder of gas, cleaned carb, replaced carb with one fresh off a running lt80, etc. I am to the point of going to bed thinking about a damn atv...lol the only thing I haven't checked and the last thing I can think of is the timing....could it somehow be off...maybe...we shall find out tomorrow.
