I'm new to this site I hope I'm under the right spot haha. I'm fixing my friends blaster for him but it's a headache need help. He has a 1999 yamaha blaster he bought it not running guy told him "just needs reeds" the reeds were snapped but didn't get into motor so I removed them and put brand new stock ones in then put all fresh gas mixed 32 to 1 the oil injector system was removed and I check it all over to make sure and it was fine. The bike started up and ran like sh*t. Rode down the street and it would only go like 3mph full throttle or half it would bog and smoke more then it should. Read to try replacing crank shaft seals so I did and it helped a lot so no it has more power but it still bogs it's like jumpy. So now I'm guessing it's carb I got a stock carb with 280 main 32.5 pilot jet. 3 clip on the needle and it's running 32 to 1 with a new plug k&n air filer and fmf fatty pipe with fmf silencer. I can post video if helps

Vids can help but you should perform a leak test and if all is good with that then plug chop.. Also if it were sitting for any amount of time clean carb check float height and check for obstructions in intake and exhaust (critter nests) also they like to chew wires. check that spark is nice and blue..

Cleaned out the fuel tank first ? I would buy a rebuild kit for the carb, they are cheap, then put a inline filter to the carb .

#280 main jet is bordering lean with the mods stated especially if the weather is cold.

Is the air box lid off or on?

I did clean the tank before new gas and the air filter lid is off also I cleaned the carb no crust at all and for the floats they have good spring back and are level I used this photo for advise when I checked them

Also about the jets (main and piolet) should I try larger or smaller? Jw I got a 35-40 piolet to try too and a 290 main

lets here it on video.
if you got good compression
no air leaks
good spark/at the right time
tuned carb..there should not be a problem.
we can tell a lot from a pic or video:)
wood ruff key is aligned
is tors still hooked up?
will it rev fine sitting still?

i could ask a million question...save me and get a pic of both sides of carb ect or vid lol
stock pilot jet is fine...as long as you can hold it up to a light and see through ito_O
what is airscrew set at????
get a compression readingo_O

Should I try a bigger main?

i would think if it was running lean that it would have no problem revving up...although lean rev:) plug chop
what plug are you running what is airscrew set at..anwser please?
guessing everything about this quad is harder then you giving everything you know about history of it :)
sounds like this : had an airleak-then broke a reed=you need to look at top end take off exhaust and look up cylinder/or take head off cylinder and inspect..or rent or buy a compression gauge and do a compression test..if it had an airleak top end prob overheated on top of other abusing it has had....thats my wild guess:eek:

Wat compression should I be at I'll rent a tester soon and I'll post a video of it running by monday

Have you checked for obstructions ? exhaust/intake? Reed stuck in exhaust somewhere?????

At least a #300 main jet and plug chop to confirm.

Set the idle as specs.

Idle speed adjustment.

Set float level, make sure that all jets are clean and fuel flows freely from the float bowl drain when the screw is cracked open.

Start with air screw 1.5 turns out.

Set idle screw so that it has some sort of idle. With TORS it is the big screw under seat on top of unit. With no TORS is is the brass screw midway down carb body.

Warm up motor and then set idle screw for a faster idle, 2000rpm+

Adjust air screw either way to get the fastest idle.

Adjust air screw a little at a time leaving 10 secs or until the motor responds.

Re adjust idle screw for desired idle .
