Well I got both the craigslist quads home last night. Hopefully one will be for the old lady and one for my 10 yr old girl, since me and big sis already have ours. Stopped by the shop after work and got em parked and covered, where there gonna sit til I get some other things finished up. I'm not worried about getting them done by christmas, just gotta be done by next spring. Sorry no pics yet, but I'll get some up soon.

Been sick the past couple of days and putting an addition on my shop so I really can't fool with em much right now. The first is a 2006 marshin wolf 150. It starts and runs at an idle, but that's it. Seems to be full auto??? It has what looks like a fold up shifter but it moves about 90 degrees and doesn't feel like its doing anything. When you first start it and the choke is on (I think its automatic choke) if you just ease on the gas it will go.. barely, but after it warms up a minute the gas just kills it. Its also gonna need at least a new rear brake reservoir and I'll be shaving the rear fenders cause theyre all busted up and I don't wanna buy new ones. This thing looks like a pain to work on. Can't even get to the carb or air filter. Gotta track me down a manual for this one, found one for the moto already.

The other is Yamaha 80 moto 4, looks like its prob from the 80's. May need more than I wanna put in it. I gotta get a battery for it first. He had no idea what was wrong with it said it just stopped goin. It rolls fine, in neutral, first and second :( The shifter doesn't seem to shift higher than second, but I was hoping that's cause its not moving. Rear brakes aren't working at the moment either. Otherwise he said it ran fine, just said it was binding when you tried to go.

Probably be about 2 weeks to finish my shop addition, and then I'll have some time for these. I'll start with compression test and then start taking things apart to see what I find. I'm not gonna do a total rebuild on these, just gonna get em up and functional and paint the plastics.

on the 150 I believe the fold up shifter you describe is actually a kicker,if its like some ive had here you gotta pull the tank to get to the carb and a new carb is under $30.post some close up pics and ill help ya out

Yeah I was thinking the gas tank removal would give me access. I'm not sure on the shifter thing. Its on the, well what would be the stator side on a blaster lol. I'll get quite a few pics up tomorrow night if I'm feeling better. Do you know what the compression is supposed to run on these?

I think that the choke on top of the carb

My daughter is with her mom right now and my shop is on another property, so won't find out til xmas. My gf just knows I been looking for one for my daughter and I told her I got a back-up in case I can't get one going. Planning on telling her that one is beyond repair once I start workin on em

So since it seems to start fine, and the kicker doesn't feel like its doing anything, I think I'll just remove it. I know it would be good for back up, but I'd rather get rid of it. Also gonna be deleting what appears to be a hand e-brake on the other side, that goes to a big box on the rear axle. I didn't notice any wires on the carb, but I'll be checking more soon. Gotta find a manual for this bad boy to at least straighten out the wiring night mare. Whats the best way to cut plastics? I was thinking jig saw or bandsaw if I took em off. Also I was looking today, the moto has no rear suspension! That might be a rough rider,

So I think I'm gonna get a different carb for the marshin. I haven't even started working on either yet so I'm not sure what I'm looking for yet, but anybody have any suggestions? From looking online its either a 26 or 27mm. I'd rather not put a stock back on it, just cause I know everything stock on these is cheap

I think I'll keep it, it says mikuni on it. I got a lot done tonight. On break from my shop addition, because the lumber was wet and we're having good weather, so I'm letting it dry before I close up the framing. So I started tear down on both quads today and got a pretty good ways. Got all the plastics off both and tore into em.
Here's some pics of the carb. I'm not sure how to measure it, but I can't get 26 or 27 mm anywhere. Not sure how the slide works on this thing either

So this was the air filter in the moto

And this was the intake from air box to carb

And here's where the go broke, there was about a tablespoon of fluid in there

Thought it was gonna be a cheap easy fix... Well a new pinion gear (the smaller) runs just over $200, almost wish it was a transmission problem now. Good news is that the motor and tranny still seem good. Also figured out that its not an 80 its a 100, but I can't find a vin on it anywhere to figure out what year.

I know they only made the 100 "champ" for a few years and the latter years had a rear suspension. If anybody knew where the vin is or what parts will work with this thing, let me know. Here's how I left em hopefully won't be tearing down much more.

Gonna do some frame paint on the rear of both just to get rid of the rust, but I'm not going all out on these 2. Anybody know the best way to cut plastics, I was thinking my bandsaw would be best if they will fit.

Thanks for your help on this man. I figured that, wasn't sure if that hose over the top was supposed to go to something, it wasn't connected, I was hoping it might be the problem. I know that it working off a vacuum it would probably need to breath though and that could be the reason for the hose.

Worked on my addition today, and was gonna check compression on both quads while I was there. Got the battery hooked up to the Moto and it turned over great. Had it in gear and it spun the u joint coming out of the tranny. Pulled the plug to hook up my tester and said wtf. It was the smallest plug I have ever seen, so need to get an adapter. China quad is the same way.
