Could this tricky spot be welded?

Guys, I cracked the case right where the shifter goes in, its a very clean break though that lines up well. Two questions, one can it be welded back together and successfully hold up at such a high stress area as the shifter. And two, can I have this welded without splitting the cases?

welding cast aluminum is tricky but can be done.
best to take it to a professional welding shop
thats common for that side to break from chain whack and they're getting harder and harder to find in good shape.
you're going to have to disassemble everything to have it welded anyway, and in that case should maybe just look for a good right side case halve ?

I agree with what Awk said. The main thing that sucks about welding cast is theres still a chance itlle crack there again, no telling how big or small that chance is theres too many variables.
My case broke the same exact way. I got lucky and found a half on ebay for 75 bucks in great condition.
Personally I would try and find another one from a member on here or elsewhere. God forbid shelling out 200 plus for a new one. And then get the current one fixed and keep as a spare or sell to recoup some of the loss put forward for the replacement.

I agree with the above post....There is a case half on E-Bay today for $75.00 to get cast Alum welded correctly would be about that amount anyway.

This question is for any of you guys that have brazed a case together before... now that I have a new case id like to fix this other one, but was wondering which of two ways I should approach the job with the hts2000 i purchased. I was first thinking of melting hts 2000 to both crack edges, and then pushing the broken piece back into the case slot and reheating till it seated properly. The second option would be to V out the crack with a grinder, and then fill the crack with hts2000. In either instance I would finish by spreading the braze across the outer surface of both sides of the crack

V it out. You want pieces exactly where they were. I know with alum welding they use nothing but stainless brush to clean. DO NOT use any brake cleaner on it.

The oxides can be removed with a stainless steel or brass brush.

The brass brush is softer in bristle and will not scar the surrounding areas as moch.

The oxides should be removed on every pass.
