im in the process of turning my 1988 Yamaha blaster into a aggressive trail machine/ occasional XC race bike. I started with getting my suspension upgraded and it rides pretty nice now and I can hit the trails hard.

I think I'm ready to upgrade my motor now. It's all stock with just a toomey exhaust. I'm running 13/36 gearing and I'm usually 2nd gear mostly in the trails. I think I want to change my exhaust and build a motor that has good low end and midrange power instead of top end. What would a good setup be? Will post pics of my blaster later on.

So on my suspension setup, I've got ASR +3 long travel a arms with 400ex oem shocks, yfz450 spindles/hubs/brakes and 400ex stock brake line. On the back I've got a "swing arm shop" +2 roundhouse swing arm with 400ex axle/carrier/brake and a 400ex rear shock with a blaster spring (a lot softer and more sag). At some point I plan on getting good shocks setup specifically for my weight and setup, and some beadlock wheels. Plan is to build a light weight bullet proof fun trail bike.

Testing the blaster on its first woods race today, been raining for 2 days and it’s gonna be muddy.
