high octane fuel

hi octane fuel does nothing unless you have the compression ratio to need it.. so unless you have a modded head or advanced timing it is not needed. to tell you the truth high octane fuel is actually less effect than low octane fuel, the only need for it is to stop pre-detonation. try avgas though. its slightly higher octane but the fuel is oxygenated and burns much more fiercely than standard fuel...

Ok, I have +4 timing advance and my head isn't modded yet. I have been running 93 and was wondering if I should go to race gas. So for now I'm gonna stay with 93

i have a stock (power wise) and i was told that i shold run probust (a racing octane aditive) and advance the timing with my premix

I run 110 race fuel in my blaster and 50/50 race/premium in my banshee. I switched to 100% race gas in my blaster(s) for a few reasons 1) it runs much cooler 2) it runs better 3) it is better quality 4) and my experience is that it tends to have less carbon buildup. this is just why I stay with this type of fuel. My blasters get good mileage so I am not put off by the additional fuel costs. You may want to search for ethanol free gas in your area and try that.

Over the weekend I ran a 50/50 mix of cam2 and 93. My blaster ran alittle cooler and the idle dropped alittle since the cam2 is harder to burn. I like the way my blaster ran on it so I think I'm going to stick with it, especially since I'm about to send my head to O'conner to be modded.

probust is the proper stuff all the guys use it for rallying

and all petrol over is 95 octane and u can get u t 100 out the pump

the octane ratings in most of Europe are just the RON rating, thats why you guys usually have at least 95 and upto 100.

here we use R+M/2 which is RON + MON divided by 2.

so our normal fuel grades are 87, 89, 91, and 93 (some sunocos have 94)

that might be why when we say 100 octane race fuel it seems strange to you

Ethanol can be used as a poor mans race fuel. Thes require a rejet and possible oil mixture change. I always run 32:1 because I'm paranoid - (i normally run yamalube 2r)
E85 - 105 Octane
E85 burns cleaner can offer more horsepower and is cheaper. Downsides are these; You need richer jets, it doesn't lubricate as well as pure gasoline, so more oil may be needed, it requires higher compression/advanced timing to see the real benefits.

Flex fuel vehicles that can run e85 are not optimized for ethanol, so they actually suffer power or gasoline.

Today, in Wichita KS, 91octane is $3.72 a gallon, ethonal is confirmed at $3.39, but internet says there is a station selling it as cheap as $2.29 here in town(im going to check this out soon).
