What does this little throttle assembly switch do?

My friend flipped his machine (horrible horrible rider) and snapped his throttle assembly in the spot where the throttle cable comes out of the assembly. Since he is also horrible with tools or anything mechanical I told him I would do it (Mostly because I didn't want it to take a week and have parts all over my lawn).

Anyway, in taking the cover off to take a peek at what is inside I noticed the throttle cable, and another cable that went into the assembly. What is this other cable? It attaches to a little button inside the assembly that clicks on and off as the throttle lever is pushed in or released. The cable for this seems to have an electrical connection on it.

that is the switch for the tors system. or Throttle Over Ride System
and i have a spare throttle assembly if you need one.

That's the TORS switch. If you let off the thumb throttle, the piece attached to it comes back (spring loaded) and hits that switch. If the switch on the carburetor end also doesn't return to "idle" set point, the TORS brain kills the ignition system.
