how many gears

My blaster has exactly 5 gears. I ran through the shift pattern with the case apart to make SURE it wasn't a 6 speed. My shift drum only has 6 different positions machined into it and unless Yamaha decided to forgo neutral on my particular quad, it's a 5 speed.

Your shift pattern should be 1,N,2,3,4,5,6.......

My blaster engine came in a crate so I sat down with the manual on my work bench and ran through every part in order. My shift drum only has 6 positions for the 3 forks to ride in. I ran through gear pattern to make sure. My gear pattern runs 1N2345. Maybe I do not have a blaster shift drum.... I guess it is possible.

I'll go with the crowd on this one "all blasters are 6 speeds" (except for sicivicdude's) so no matter what else is going on 3 speeds is NOT right.

yea man all years r 6 speeds. when you ran through you should have kicked it to 1st, pushed into neutral where there wouldn't be a gear, then to second and so on. i think you would only have 6 positions on your drum. i'm pretty neutral doesn't get its own position. thats why it only gets half a click and can be such a biotch to get into sometimes.

I am almost positive that this is correct but with the shift drum thing someone can correct me if i am wrong

Now generally I pride myself on not sticking my own foot in my mouth....usually fairly proficient at that as well. I'd also like to think I'm not crazy (or just plain stupid) but I'm thinking I either need to up the dose or check my pulse...

I went out to my garage and clicked through 6 friggin gears...I must be out of my rabid ass mind is all I can say. I distinctly remember clicking through the gear pattern on the work bench and only finding 5 forward gears plus neutral...I dunno...

Now, for enough thread jacking what's going on with the 3 speed blaster?
