Do you use the clutch when shifting?

wow pretty bold statement to call people idiots....not tryin to start a fight but id like to hear your reasoning for that comment? maybe your the idiot since your doing something that isn't necessary lol? And please dont say its bad for your quad to shift without the clutch...if your gonna say that then show me why and explain what parts it hurts? chop the gas and theres ZERO load on the tranny and since its constant mesh it will shift just as easy as if the clutch was pulled and not hurt any parts at all...just a thought...but i would still like to hear your reasoning...if you have any
I agree. Its wrong to call people idiots without the facts. Up shifting without the clutch is just fine, but I still use my clutch when shifting....
on my old blaster i used the clutch to take off and when i stopped.. kinda switched around using it and not using it when riding... when your hanging off the side of the quad around corners on the river its easyer to let off the thottle click the nextgear and back on the gas with out loosing speed or sideways momentom..

well yes it is there for a reason....and that reason is to let the piston crankshaft assembly operate either connected or disconnected from the gears, and that disconnected part is kinda important to do stuff like start it, and come to a complete stop ya know. I feel like if you knew how stuff actually worked you wouldnt be so one sided about this. Nothing is "bound to go wrong" if you shift without the clutch....actually your clutch disks WILL LAST MUCH LONGER since your only slipping them to stop and start, and as long as your chopping the throttle when you shift to unload the gears, they will not take anymore stress than if you used the clutch. Im not saying that you cant use the clutch to shift....just dont be arrogant and call people idiots who dont use it, because in fact they are saving money on clutch disks, and faster than you through the gears...sounds pretty smart to me...just think before you flame
Actually, your faster with the clutch. Try coming out of a tight corner without using the clutch. Then try coming out of the same corner while slipping the clutch. Keeping your r's up on a small 2 stroke motor like the blaster is the key. Yes, it wears out the clutch fast but it also makes you a faster rider.
I also use my clutch when I take off from the line at the mx races. I went into the first corner in 5th out of 23 450's, 1 400ex and 1 raptor 250. You don't lose that much time using the clutch, at least not if your good with it

i agree 245, and slipping the clutch a little to get into the powerband can be a very good technique to come out of a corner fast especially on two strokes where nearly all the power is up top, but i never said clutching made you a slower rider...i said "they are faster than you through the gears" meaning it simply takes less time to shift from one gear to the next, which is hard to argue...if we want to talk about how to get around a track faster then yes the clutch is gonna become a tool to be faster if used correctly(and congrats on your good start, impressive)...but for 95% of the guys ridin they will never try or need to use this technique...im simply trying to explain that is more than one safe way to do things and prove that people should think before calling other people idiots when they know little about the topic
Very well put, I use mine to start, stop and 75% of the time. Talk to any truck driver and they can teach you how to shift with out harm.
same concept as shiftin a car or truck with out aclutch.. match the rpm's.. look at semi's they only use the clutch when takin off, and stopping... 200-300-400-500k miles of driving like that pulling how many tons of stuff... if you know how to do it properly you wont hurt anything.........

Amen, I have 348,000 miles on my rig right now on the original clutch and I "float" my gears all day long! RPMS are the key!
i only uswe it to start and when im going down the gears
used it all the time when i first got the blaster but i was told by a friend that i didnt need to use it.
plus if you have time to use the clutch round the track you arent going fast enough

only to start and stop, and all i can say is that im still on the original clutch plates after 4 yrs
clutch all the way, more adrenaline and it makes you a better rider...just my opinion and i also think shifting without the clutch is bad,dont know how but just my logic i also respect all of you guys opinions and facts.
I think everybody is guilty of not useing the clutch sometime, it's just knowing when and when not. imo
I would say I use them sometimes, other then starting or stopping. Depends on the situation I'm in. But for some one thats not use to using clutches or riding they should learn the to use the clutch till they know the machine. Just my thoughts and what I was told.
